The strength of a building relies on its foundation. The stronger the foundation is the stable the structure above in it. The poorly-constructed foundation is the weaker the building which leads to ruin.
It’s the same in our spiritual foundation. If we’re not careful and unaware of how can we build in a strong foundation, our life may lead to destruction. It explained in the verses below.
HEARING + OBEDIENCE = STABLE
24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.
We can have a strong foundation if we hear the word and obeys it.
In a Real Estate Company, if the Contractor carefully obeys the scheme of a House Plan given by an Architect of how many cements will be used, the exact measure of sand and gravel and the number of CHB needed, the foundation will surely be solid. When the rain fell and the storm came, structural issues are not a concern.
The same in our Spiritual Foundation, the bible promises that if we hear and obey, we can have this solid foundation. When the storm of life comes, our foundations are tested. Be sure that you don’t only hear to acquire knowledge, hear to obey!
HEARING + NO OBEDIENCE = DOWNFALL
26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Building a house with a weak or no foundation at all will entirely break itself when the storm comes. Some people don’t mind it or put it on less priority to avoid hard work or maybe to avoid costly expenses while saving time. When you only listening and not obeying, what are your reasons?
James describes that we are deceiving ourselves when we are only hearers and not doers of the word. (James 1:22).
A foolish person means godless and stupid in the original language. Yes. That’s us if we only hear and don’t obey. Speaking to myself first, I repented. Hard truth!
ROCK = JESUS CHRIST
Having heard about the Layers of the Soil?
According to nationalgeographic.org, bedrock is the hard, solid rock beneath surface materials such as soil and gravel. It is a consolidated rock, meaning it is solid and tightly bound.
Bedrock can be found by continuous digging and deep excavation down to its surface.
In a Spiritual Foundation, how can we build our life that is founded on the solid rock?
“and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual rock that followed them, and that rock was Christ.” 1 Corinthians 10:4 CSB
Just like in bedrock, building on a solid foundation involves excavating and carefully cultivating the word of God.
How? By consistently studying His word with the help of the Holy Spirit. We can find Jesus through His word. Jesus Christ is the rock!
YOUR ACTION STEP
Is your foundation solid? Weak? Or needs rebuilding?
Recall a time when you have face storms in your life. What was your response? This will determine your foundation.
It’s easy to be grateful when things in life are going well. If it’s not, will you still be grateful? Will you choose to be faithful?
I pray that when trials come, you will remain faithful in hearing and obeying the word of God.
